Gateshead Young Womens Outreach Project

Young Mothers Outreach Worker

Hello

My name is Julie and I am the Young Mothers Outreach Worker with the Young Women's Project. 'Outreach' means I do things outside of the office!

I work with young women who are pregnant and young mams, up to and including the age of 18, including young women of school age.

I really enjoy the work I that I do. I enjoy meeting the young women, and offer support in anyway that I can depending on what the young woman wants. Some things that I have done in the past include:-

* Helping with benefits.

* Working with midwives and a group of pregnant young women, talking about labour, feeding babies, pain relief, contraception, baby safety and we have a look around the labour wards of the hospitals where the young women will have their babies.

* Going to appointments with young women, e.g. Connexions, Citizen Advice Bureau, Law Centre & Solicitors.

* Pregnancy testing.

* Helping people to fill in forms.

* Organise baby massage courses for young women.

* Helping people get child safety equipment.

* Going to toddler groups with young women and their children.

* Helping people get into college, or take part in other educational activities.

* Visiting nurseries with young women to find the right child care.

* Helping people with grants.

* Link young women with other professionals , e.g. if you want to stop smoking.

* Help people with contraception.

* Link young mams with other young mams through the Young Women's Project.

* Give people information on work rights and pay during pregnancy.

* One to one (A listening ear).

If I could help you with any of the above, or anything else, please get in touch. It would be nice to meet you.

Bye Julie x
